L'idée principale de cette réalisation d'architecture consistait à procéder à une greffe d’une tranche de maison. Cette greffe permet de requalifier une habitation possédant des qualités mais aussi pas mal de défauts : un trop grand garage et de trop petits espaces de vie.
L’idée de l’extension de cette maison de ville était de s’inscrire dans une écriture résolument contemporaine pour trancher avec l’architecture sobre et traditionnelle de la maison existante, se faisant discrète sur rue, mais permettant une requalification franche de la façade sur jardin.
L’organisation originelle de la maison se prêtait tout à fait à l’exploitation de cette travée libre en R+1 au dessus du garage, la circulation verticale existante se trouvant déjà en mitoyenneté avec la travée du garage. La transformation de la petite chambre 1 originelle, trop petite pour être une chambre de toute façon, en espace TV/palier de desserte a permis de créer une véritable travée de circulation à l’étage entre les 2 chambres conservées et l’extension/surélévation.
La principale contrainte technique de distribution de l’espace fut la création d’ouvertures dans des porteurs au rez-de-chaussée pour permettre la transition entre ancien espace de vie et les nouveaux qui ont été aménagés en rez de chaussée sur jardin : la cuisine et la salle à manger.
The main idea behind this architecture project was to carry out a graft of a slice of house. This addition made it possible to requalify a home that had qualities but also many flaws: an oversized garage and living spaces that were too small.
The concept of extending this townhouse was to adopt a resolutely contemporary design that would contrast with the sober and traditional architecture of the existing house — discreet on the street side, but allowing a clear redefinition of the garden façade.
The original layout of the house was perfectly suited to using this free bay on the first floor above the garage, as the existing vertical circulation was already adjoining the garage bay. Transforming the original small bedroom 1, which was too small to be a bedroom anyway, into a TV area/landing made it possible to create a true circulation axis on the upper floor between the two preserved bedrooms and the extension/raising.
The main technical constraint in distributing the space was the creation of openings in load-bearing walls on the ground floor to allow the transition between the old living areas and the new ones, which were laid out on the garden side: the kitchen and the dining room.
