Make an old apartment brighter
- Dimensions: 42 m²
- Number of rooms: 2 (including 1 bedroom)
- Style: Contemporary
This small, originally rustic-style apartment was completely redesigned for Laura to make it brighter. Indeed, the apartment suffered from a lack of light: wooden beams and a dark tile floor made the living room very dark, despite the incredible potential of the large windows overlooking the street for natural light. Several partitions made the layout impractical. To make this interior brighter, optimize and facilitate circulation, the interior architect and decorator worked on a reorganization and a new custom look.
Reorganize volumes to improve natural lighting
The living room, as the true living space, needed to be fully opened to satisfy the owner's desire for space, achieve the smoothest circulation possible, and brighten the whole apartment. Several partitions in the apartment were moved or removed for this purpose:- Kitchen opened to the whole space instead of being in a closed block, to optimize natural light
- Straight corridor directly connected to the living room
- Bathroom moved near the bedroom thanks to the space freed by optimizing the corridor
All in white: highlighting natural light
White is the true principle of the new decoration. It intensely reflects daylight, which now floods the living space. The custom kitchen is very streamlined: no cupboard handles (push-to-open system), satin white lacquer in the current trendy spirit. To break this minimalist look and regain a touch of classicism, the countertop is clad in Carrara marble.
This immaculate approach is found in the magnificent original beams in the living room, which were simply repainted white. The dark tiles were covered with a bleached oak floor. A satin white "full-empty" bookcase, specially designed for this apartment, adorns an entire living room wall, harmonizing with the kitchen.
The luminous atmosphere follows the same logic and emphasizes LED lighting, embedded in a beam and in kitchen furniture, for example. White extends to this surprising minimalist clock above the fireplace, as well as to the other rooms of the apartment.
Brighten with citrus touches
To break the cold impression of whiteness, citrus touches were added here and there: a streak of bright yellow paint, an orange vase, a grapefruit-colored armchair... The courtyard-facing bedroom is warmed by a Scandinavian light wood bed. The old fireplace was replaced by a bioethanol version, warming the ambiance and recalling the classical heritage of the place.Owner testimonial:
"I really liked the different layout versions you proposed, some of which I would never have thought of. I especially appreciated the management of the work and unforeseen events by the interior architect. When you don’t have time, it’s precious to have someone on site. Also, good shopping sessions for furniture in stores I wouldn’t necessarily have visited without you. The 'after-sales' service is on point, which is important given the type of apartment and the budget involved". LauraTo learn more about the renovation of this apartment:
