Garden of a 16th century house
- Objectives: complete restoration of a 16th century group of buildings including the garden
- Plants: shrubs (fruit trees, spruces, hardwoods, etc.), flowers (in clumps and climbing)
As part of the complete restoration of a group of late 16th-century buildings (main house, barns, stables, sheepfolds…), the landscaping project involved creating a holiday garden. Originally, the garden was an overgrown patch of grass with very old and beautiful trees.
The landscape gardener was responsible for planting shrubs (fruit trees, spruces, deciduous trees…), flowers in beds, climbing or otherwise. He combined seasonal plantings with juxtaposition of species, colours and shapes. He also handled the composition of borders and flowerbeds, as well as the paths and hedges.
The project also involved rehabilitating part of the original moat into a natural pond where plants and wildlife coexist.
