Renovation of a 1960s apartment
This apartment in an outdated and characterless 1965 building was completely reimagined to be given a second life.
The brief was to bring style, charm and authenticity, while optimising volumes and natural light.
The creation of acoustic workshop-style partitions gives the living and bedroom spaces a sleek, elongated feel through their full-height vertical rhythms, and creates a sense of visual depth that allows natural light to pass through from all directions. From the very entrance, the eye is drawn all the way to the exterior horizon line, connected by three large glazed bays.
These partitions allow natural light and the eye to travel across all spaces. The brief was to visually extend the living room into the bedroom, and the entrance into the kitchen, to create a sense of space and light from the moment one enters the apartment.
The bathroom volume was optimised by incorporating additional corridor space. Consequently, the bedroom entrance was relocated to the living room, making way for a 3-metre-long wardrobe.
On the decorative side, choices leaned towards an industrial style with authentic materials and an oak "wagon floor" parquet. In a warm-cool colour contrast, blues enhance the warmth of the wood. Vintage furniture adds character and history, while continuous shelving structures and harmonises the spaces.
The living room's glazed bays overlooking the treetops are connected by a green wall that creates a horizontal line and invites the outside in — for the well-being, aesthetics and health of its occupants.
