Opening of a kitchen on a living room

Ce projet a fait bénéficier les propriétaires d'une embellie du confort de vie dans cet appartement lumineux.
Nous avons été invités à rénover cet espace en procédant à une ouverture du mur porteur entre la cuisine et la salon, dans le but de tirer parti de toute la luminosité des deux baies vitrées du salon. Le mur en béton à ouvrir était très dense, il a donc fallu le découper bout par bout, un travail effectué par l'entreprise prestataire de travaux.
La transformation de la cuisine a entraîné la transformation d'autres espaces et éléments d’aménagement.
L'entrée de l'appartement
L'ancien passage vers la cuisine a été condamné et l'espace a été partagé entre la cuisine et l'entrée. Dans l'entrée, une niche en chêne massif a pris sa place. Cette niche permet de s'asseoir pour se chausser d'une façon très pratique. Un placard pour chaussures a été dissimulé en dessous de ce support. On peut aussi déposer ici son sac. La fonction esthétique de la niche est de créer un rappel du meuble cave à vin et d'animer ce lieu de passage. Les portes coulissantes en miroir bronze du placard existant ont été remplacées par de portes battantes en MDF à peindre afin de les fondre avec les murs. Le papier peint de Cole & Son apporte un twist graphique à cette construction sobre. Un petit détail qui a toute son importance : les poignées du placard sont assorties avec le papier peint.
La cuisine
La cuisine est le véritable point de départ de ce projet. Elle est rénovée dans un style très sobre et intemporel, avec des portes noir mat et un plan de travail gris légèrement veiné. La fantaisie est apportée par le sol en carreau de ciments de Mosaic del Sur. Le calepinage a été réalisé sur place. Les armoires de différentes profondeurs, intégrées autour du réfrigérateur en inox corrigent la configuration de la pièce et offrent de nombreux rangements. Le positionnement de la fenêtre a permit d'installer les meubles en dessous, mais l'évier a dû être décalé. Le plan repas initialement projeté sous la verrière a finalement été remplacé par des rangements en petite profondeur sur mesure.
Cette cuisine est un bel exemple de valorisation de l'espace. Nous avons utilisé tous les recoins sans perdre des précieux cm2, tout en respectant le budget. De nombreux éléments Ikea ont été adaptés sur mesure par le menuisier.
La verrière
Pour séparer la cuisine du salon nous avons installé une verrière sur mesure. Les dimensions des ouvertures ne nous ont pas permis d'installer une verrière de grande distribution. Nous avons donc eu recours à la verrerie artisanale via Verrière Intérieure Paris, ce qui nous a permis de réaliser notre propre dessin et d'obtenir un esthétisme différent des verrières standard. Cette verrière est aussi intéressante d'un point de vue technique, car la porte battante s’ouvre vers le salon a 180° et est arrêtée par une butée magnétique installée contre le mur. Ainsi nous avons gardé la fluidité de déplacement en utilisant des placards à l’intérieur de la cuisine, tout en évitant le risque de se heurter à la porte lorsqu'elle est ouverte.
Le sol
Lors de ces travaux de rénovation, nous avons également remplacé le sol stratifié existant par un nouveaux parquet contrecollé. Nous avons repeint l'escalier en hêtre ainsi que la porte d'entrée afin de bien harmoniser les matières.
La cave à vin
Un des points importants du cahier de charges pour cette rénovation été l'implantation d'une grande cave à vin. Encore lors du 1er rendez-vous et avant d'entamer le travail sur le projet nous avons proposé de placer la cave à vin dans l'espace salle à manger, plutôt que dans la cuisine, afin que les grands crus soient toujours à portée de main. Un autre argument était le fait qu'il ne restait plus beaucoup de place dans la cuisine pour une colonne de cette taille.
La cave à vin étant plus profonde que l'espace disponible, nous avons décidé de souligner le décroché par le cadre en chêne massif, tout en créant des placards à balais dissimulés derrière les portes en MDF peints en blanc comme les murs. Esthétiquement, ce meuble sur mesure s’intègre parfaitement dans l’ambiance assez minimaliste et épurée souhaitée par les clients.
Les miroirs de chez Hay Design ont été sélectionnées par les clients lors d'un voyage au Danemark.

This project has provided the owners with a significant improvement in their quality of life in this light-filled apartment.
We were invited to renovate this space by opening up the load-bearing wall between the kitchen and the living room, with the aim of making the most of the full natural light from the two French windows in the living room. The concrete wall to be opened was very dense, and had to be cut away piece by piece — work carried out by the appointed building contractor.
The transformation of the kitchen led to the transformation of other spaces and layout elements.
The apartment entrance hall
The former passageway to the kitchen was closed off and the space was shared between the kitchen and the entrance hall. In the entrance hall, a solid oak alcove has taken its place. This alcove provides a very practical place to sit and put on shoes. A shoe cupboard has been concealed beneath this bench. It also serves as a spot to set down a bag. The aesthetic function of the alcove is to echo the wine cabinet and to bring character to this transitional space. The existing bronze mirror sliding cupboard doors were replaced by MDF hinged doors to be painted, so as to blend seamlessly with the walls. The Cole & Son wallpaper adds a graphic twist to this otherwise understated setting. A small but significant detail: the cupboard handles are coordinated with the wallpaper.
The kitchen
The kitchen is the true starting point of this project. It has been renovated in a very understated and timeless style, with matt black doors and a lightly veined grey worktop. A playful touch is introduced by the encaustic cement tile floor from Mosaic del Sur. The tile layout was designed and fitted on-site. Cupboards of varying depths, integrated around the stainless steel fridge, correct the configuration of the room and provide ample storage. The positioning of the window allowed the units to be installed below it, but the sink had to be shifted. The dining area initially planned beneath the glazed partition was ultimately replaced by bespoke shallow-depth shelving.
This kitchen is a fine example of space optimisation. We made use of every nook and cranny without losing a single precious cm², all while respecting the budget. Many IKEA elements were adapted to measure by the joiner.
The glazed partition
To separate the kitchen from the living room, we installed a bespoke glazed partition. The dimensions of the openings did not allow for an off-the-shelf partition to be installed. We therefore turned to an artisan glazier through Verrière Intérieure Paris, which allowed us to create our own design and achieve an aesthetic that differs from standard partitions. This partition is also interesting from a technical standpoint, as the hinged door opens towards the living room at 180° and is held in place by a magnetic stop fitted against the wall. This means we retained ease of movement while using cupboards inside the kitchen, while avoiding the risk of walking into the door when it is open.
The flooring
As part of this renovation, we also replaced the existing laminate flooring with new engineered parquet. We repainted the beech staircase and the front door to ensure a harmonious finish throughout.
The wine cabinet
One of the key requirements of the brief for this renovation was the installation of a large wine cabinet. As early as the 1st meeting, and before beginning work on the project, we proposed placing the wine cabinet in the dining room area rather than in the kitchen, so that the finest bottles would always be close at hand. A further argument was the fact that little space remained in the kitchen for a unit of this size.
As the wine cabinet was deeper than the available space, we decided to highlight the recess with a solid oak frame, while creating broom cupboards concealed behind MDF doors painted white to match the walls. Aesthetically, this bespoke piece of furniture integrates perfectly into the minimalist, pared-back ambience desired by the clients.
The mirrors from Hay Design were selected by the clients during a trip to Denmark.
