Les propriétaire de cette maison de ville souhaitaient exploiter la travée du garage pour apporter une superficie complémentaire au logement.
L'idée principale de cette réalisation d'architecture consistait à procéder à une greffe d’une tranche de maison. Cette greffe permet de requalifier une habitation possédant des qualités mais aussi pas mal de défauts : un trop grand garage et de trop petits espaces de vie.
L’idée de l’extension de cette maison de ville était de s’inscrire dans une écriture résolument contemporaine pour trancher avec l’architecture sobre et traditionnelle de la maison existante, se faisant discrète sur rue, mais permettant une requalification franche de la façade sur jardin.
L’organisation originelle de la maison se prêtait tout à fait à l’exploitation de cette travée libre en R+1 au dessus du garage, la circulation verticale existante se trouvant déjà en mitoyenneté avec la travée du garage. La transformation de la petite chambre 1 originelle, trop petite pour être une chambre de toute façon, en espace TV/palier de desserte a permis de créer une véritable travée de circulation à l’étage entre les 2 chambres conservées et l’extension/surélévation.
La principale contrainte technique de distribution de l’espace fut la création d’ouvertures dans des porteurs au rez-de-chaussée pour permettre la transition entre ancien espace de vie et les nouveaux qui ont été aménagés en rez de chaussée sur jardin : la cuisine et la salle à manger.

The owners of this town house wished to make use of the garage bay to add extra living space to their home.
The central idea behind this architectural project was to graft a new slice of house onto the existing one. This addition allowed the requalification of a home that had genuine qualities but also significant shortcomings: an oversized garage and undersized living areas.
The concept for this town house extension was to adopt a resolutely contemporary language, deliberately contrasting with the sober, traditional architecture of the existing building — discreet on the street side, yet allowing a bold transformation of the garden facade.
The original layout of the house was well suited to the conversion of this free bay across ground and first floors above the garage, as the existing vertical circulation was already adjacent to the garage bay. Converting the original small bedroom 1 — too small to function as a bedroom in any case — into a TV room and landing gave way to a proper circulation bay on the upper floor, connecting the 2 retained bedrooms with the new extension and raised section.
The main technical constraint for the spatial organisation was the creation of openings through load-bearing walls on the ground floor to allow a smooth transition between the existing living spaces and the new ones laid out on the garden level: the kitchen and dining room.
