3 room apartment 65m²
Construit à la fin du 19ème siècle, cet appartement de 65 m² présentait des pièces à vivre relativement confortables. Cependant, il souffrait de certaines lacunes: une cuisine un peu isolée, une salle d'eau très étriquée, un couloir sans utilité et un dressing bien étroit. L'enjeu du projet consistait en deux points majeurs: d'une part, clarifier l'espace séjour et le mettre en relation avec la cuisine. D'autre part, offrir une vraie salle de bain confortable.
Après étude de l'ossature du mur porteur, nous avons pu ouvrir partiellement ce dernier sans porter atteinte à sa solidité. Cette intervention nous a ainsi permis de se défaire du couloir et d'offrir une triple ouverture
La cuisine, réaménagée, est devenue traversante. L'ancien sanitaire s'est transformé en une salle de bain fonctionnelle, confortable et lumineuse grâce aux « baies atelier » donnant sur le séjour. Le plan vasque est façonné en marbre et la baignoire en fonte émaillée. Dans le cadre de cette rénovation, nous avons tenu à réemployer les anciennes portes après remplacement des parties vitrées ainsi que les radiateurs en fonte existants.
Le parquet a été repris avec ingéniosité par notre menuisier, de manière à combler les vides laissés par les cloisons abattues. Ce qui fut autrefois une petite salle d'eau a été transformé en local technique, abritant le lave-linge, le compteur gaz, ainsi que la chaudière individuelle.
Certains murs ont été recouverts de gris anthracite dont la teinte est variable d'un mur à un autre. Nous avons souhaité marier cadre ancien avec un mobilier assez contemporain, n'hésitant pas à faire appel au polycarbonate ou au verre comme structure de mobilier. Cette réalisation est le fruit d'une belle entente avec les propriétaires ainsi que l'entreprise mandatée pour les travaux. Ce lieu, sainement construit, a pu retrouver une fraîcheur, gagner en lumière et s'armer d'un caractère moderne qui pouvait lui faire défaut.

Built at the end of the 19th century, this 65 m² apartment offered reasonably comfortable living spaces. However, it suffered from certain shortcomings: a somewhat isolated kitchen, a very cramped shower room, a redundant corridor and a very narrow dressing room. The project's challenge centred on two key points: firstly, to open up the living area and connect it with the kitchen; and secondly, to provide a truly comfortable bathroom.
After studying the structure of the load-bearing wall, we were able to partially open it up without compromising its integrity. This intervention allowed us to eliminate the corridor and create a triple opening.
The redesigned kitchen became a through-room. The former toilet area was transformed into a functional, comfortable and light-filled bathroom thanks to the « atelier bay windows » overlooking the living room. The vanity top is crafted from marble and the bathtub is in enamelled cast iron. As part of this renovation, we were keen to reuse the original doors after replacing the glazed sections, as well as the existing cast iron radiators.
The parquet floor was ingeniously restored by our joiner to fill the gaps left by the removed partition walls. What was once a small shower room was transformed into a utility room housing the washing machine, the gas meter and the individual boiler.
Certain walls were painted anthracite grey, the shade varying from one wall to another. We wanted to marry the period setting with fairly contemporary furniture, not hesitating to use polycarbonate or glass as furniture structures. This project is the result of a wonderful collaboration with the owners and the company appointed for the works. This well-built space has been given a fresh lease of life, gained in light and armed with a modern character it had previously lacked.
